There are quite a few gamers that made out quite well financially by testing games. You don't need to be one of the world's top gamers to become a tester. Anyone with simple computer skills can make the cut. Step 2. Send them a polished, well thought out resume. Be sure to emphasize your level of experience. Don't exaggerate your skills, but don't be shy either. Tell it like it is. Let them know what games you play and how many hours your spend gaming each day. They will want enthusiastic candidates to be a game tester.

Step 3. Let it be known that you are committed to improving the quality of video games. Weave in some information letting them know that you understand how to be a game tester, the role of game tester, and its importance to releasing a quality product.

Step 4. Let your resume and cover letter show your understanding of the technical jargon that is used in game testing. Prove that you understand what bugs, glitches, and coding mistakes mean. If possible, mention some of the errors that you have found in games that you currently own. Show them that you have good analytical skills.

Step 5. When you're searching the Internet for jobs, don't search only for game testers. Try searching for quality assurance jobs as well. Many companies employ their game testers under the umbrella of their Quality Assurance departments, because game testing is intended to ensure that the finished games will provide excellent value and quality to the customers.

Step 6. If you have played any games developed by the company to which you are applying, and have found any glitches, let them know. Be very specific about the nature of the error and how it affected the game. This could get you in contact with a programmer or QA person, great contacts to have if you want to be a game tester.

Step 7. Be persistent. Keep sending out those resumes to every game manufacturer you can think of. Don't worry if they don't have jobs available currently, they may have some in the future. If they do, your resume will already be there.

As with any job in any industry, the principals at the company want professionals working for them. It's important that you know how to be a game tester and have certain basic skills and experience, but it's equally, if not more, important to present yourself as a responsible and capable person. First impressions really do count. Make sure that yours is remembered as positive.
