It's a fact that most of the game tester jobs are those located at the game company's office, it doesn't mean that game testing jobs at home do not exist. It depends upon the type of game, the size of the game development company, and the pay level.

You'll need to do some serious research to find the right home based job, but you can find one if you have enough patience. The hard facts are that there are fewer opportunities for an at home game tester than there are to work out of a game company office. Sometimes, when the gaming industry is hot, the economy's great, and everyone has extra money to spend of video games, video game testing from home gets a boost because the companies can't find enough testers to work in their office, or require so many testers that they don't have room to seat them. On the other hand, there are sometimes more home based jobs available in hard economic times when game developers are trying to cut down on overhead, and are willing to use testers based at home. In other words, in either case there opportunities for at home game testing. You just have to find out what game companies are reacting to the conditions by using home based testers.

For those testers that do end up working from home, they will usually end up having a greater work load than testers located at the company office. The game company is going to get as much out of you as they can. It's up to you to set a comfortable pace and keep a work schedule that enables you to stay on target. There is often a lot more record keeping required by the home tester, and game company management may call or drop in at any time.

One big benefit that the office based testers don't have; you may get to keep the beta games that you're testing. An excellent benefit for the ardent gamer! Some companies let you keep the beta game that you are testing, while others may give new a fresh copy of the released game that you worked on. Either way it's a nice benefit. Test a lot of jobs, and get a lot of free games.

There are a number of website that can help you learn the secrets of becoming a successful game tester from home. These sites also display tester job postings for some of the area game companies. They'll even help you to fill out the application. Be careful before making a commitment to become a member of one of these sites until you've investigated it thoroughly. You want to join one with a good track record. Check with friends and industry blogs. If the website is authentic, joining could help you on your way to a career as a video game tester from home.

So, it's easy to see why, even though it's a job to find the home based job, it's worth it if a job materializes. You'll get free games, and get paid to play, and you can do it all while being a video game tester at home.
